Another school official suspended with pay and benefits. I would love to read some of their contracts. Some of you may remember another school official leaving her two years early with a huge buyout. Our tax dollars at work!

On a related subject. The military says 23% of high school graduates cannot pass a simple exam to enlist. Does this relate to Randolph County Schools "No Way" you say. How do you know?

I've told you before about my sterling silver Parker pen which I have carried for over 30 years. I've kept it so long because I never let anyone borrow it to get out of my sight. Two weeks ago Micki and I were sitting at the kitchen table, where she asked to use it to fill out a Schwans order. I guess I had a brain freeze and went to take my daily nap. While I was sleeping the Schwans guy came and went. I looked for my pen, couldn't find it after a lengthy search, and thought about putting out an APB for the Schwans truck. Was it possible he had mistakenly stuck it in his pocket after making out his bill? Serious panic was setting in; when I noticed a new 2011 Schwans catalog on the table. So, where's the 2010 catalog? Micki, would have thrown it away. So I went to the trash can and dug thru potato peelings, coffee grounds, etc. until I found it. As I picked it up, my pen fell out of it. Micki got a little offended when I told her she no longer had pen privileges.

Some of my 25 readers (OK it was one) complained when my column did not appear two weeks ago. Turns out it got lost somewhere at the Herald office. I have hit on a solution to prevent that from happening again, subject to approval of the editor. She hires an armored car service such as Brinks or Guardum to come to my house, pick up my scratchings¸and deliver it to the Herald where they will place it in a large safe just inside the door. This would be a little pricey, but might be able to prevent an uprising lead by Dean Lochhead.

Sailors have more fun!
