Joseph L. and Irene Swallers

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Joseph L. Swallers, 59, of Du Quoin, passed at 2:51 p.m., Friday, Dec. 10, 2010 in rural Pinckneyville.

Joe retired from the Illinois Department of Corrections having worked at the Pinckneyville Correctional Center.

He had been working in maintenance at Fleetwoods Convenience Store at Willisville. He was a Baptist.

Joe was a member of the Du Quoin Elks Lodge and the Southern Illinois Bass Anglers. He was a US Army Veteran serving as a Specialist 5 in Germany.

He was born April 11, 1951 at Du Quoin, Ill. the son of Walter E. and Nancy C. (Richerson) Swallers.

He is survived by one son- Joseph W. Swallers and fiance Michelle of Chester, daughter- Ami Coltrin and husband David of Marquette Heights, Ill., father- Walter (Bud) Swallers of Du Quoin, two sisters- Connie Shryock and husband Chuck of Orlando, Fla., Tena Rennison and husband Bob of Du Quoin, six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Irene Swallers, 49, of Du Quoin, passed away at 2:51 p.m., Friday, Dec. 10, 2010 in rural Pinckneyville.

Irene was manager of Fleetwoods Convenience Store in Willisville. She was of the Protestant faith.

She was born Oct. 14, 1961 in Neckaresulm, Germany the daughter of Josef and Klara Kokot.

She is survived by son- Joseph W. Swallers and fiance Michelle of Chester, step daughter- Ami Coltrin and husband David of Marquette Heights, Ill., parents- Josef and Klara Kokot of Germany, two grandchildren, four step grandchildren, two brothers- Rudi Kokot and Richard Kokot, both of Germany, sister- Monica Kokot of Germany.

Joseph L. and Irene Swallers were married May 19, 1979 at Leesville, La.

Private family visitation and funeral services were held at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Steve Bareis officiating.

Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin. Military graveside rites were conducted for Joseph L. Swallers by the Du Quoin VFW and Du Quoin American Legion.
