George Edgar McKinstry

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[George Edgar McKinstry, age 83, of Pinckneyville, Ill., passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. in Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.

He was the son of Leonard and Louise (Deitz) McKinstry. George was born April 13, 1927 in Pinckneyville, Ill. George married Wanda Lee Pyatt in July of 1955. They shared 55 years together.

George was a veteran having served nine months and nine days in the Navy in 1945 at the end of WWII and two years in the Army from 1950 to 1952. He attended machinist school while in the Army at Aberdeen, Maryland. He was a machinist for 42 years. He worked 10 and a half years at Nashville Mine Company, 10 years at U.S. Gypsum and 21 and a half years at Central Shop for Consolidation Coal Company. He retired in October 1992. George was a member of the U.M.W.A. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, Pinckneyville, Ill. where he served as a Deacon and an Elder. George enjoyed gardening, cooking, repairing automobiles, traveling and loved to go fishing. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Lee McKinstry; a daughter Alice Kay McKinstry Davis (husband Dennis) of Mount Dora, Fla. and a son, Glenn Allen McKinstry of Pinckneyville, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Floyd McKinstry , Leonard McKinstry, Bert McKinstry and one sister, Helen Bigham.

Funeral services were held at First United Presbyterian Church, Pinckneyville, Ill. on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Charles Walden officiating. Interment was in Galum Presbyterian Cemetery, Pinckneyville, Ill.

Visitation was held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, Ill. on Tuesday, Dec. 28 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friends and family also called on Wednesday morning at the First United Presbyterian Church, Pinckneyville, Ill. from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
