Don Anderson
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Don Anderson, 72, of Taylorville, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2010 in Meadow Manor Nursing Home.
He was born Feb. 20, 1938 in Knoxville, Tenn., to Fred and Dorothy (Armstrong) Anderson. He married Charlotte Seay on June 2, 1961 at Valley Station, Ky.
He received a B.A. and M.A. from Western Kentucky University. He was an American History teacher and a football coach. He enjoyed football his entire life, playing at South High School in Knoxville, Tenn. and Western Kentucky University. He coached for 23 years, including four years as an assistant at Shawnee High School in Louisville, Ky. and then as head coach at Bridgeport, Ill. and Du Quoin High School. He served as head football coach at Taylorville High School for 15 years. He also enjoyed teaching American History and collected books about the Civil War and was also a coin collector.
He was inducted into the Illinois High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 1991 and the Taylorville High School Hall of Fame in 1997. He helped start the Junior Football League in Taylorville and had been a supporter of the YMCA since his retirement.
Surviving are his wife, Charlotte of Taylorville; son, Greg (wife Jina Anderson of Tayorville; three granddaughters, Lea, Jami and Amy Anderson, all of Taylorville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth Anderson and infant son, Gary.
Visitation was held on Monday, Oct. 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. in Shafer-Perfetti Funeral Home in Taylorville.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Bob Spurgin officiating.
