Charles E. Endres

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Charles E. Endres, 88, of Murphysboro, passed away at 3:30 p.m. Monday, July 12, 2010, at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro, Illinois.

A Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2010, at St. Andrew Catholic Church with Father Gary Gummersheimer and Father James Buerster officiating and burial was at Murdale Gardens of Memory with military services conducted by the American Legion Post # 127, V.F.W. Post # 7190 and 2605, and the Jackson County D.A.V. Chapter # 69. Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday until 9:45 a.m. at Pettett Funeral Home, where a rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Friday. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Southern Illinois, Inc., the American Cancer Society, or to the donor&#39;s choice.

Charles was born on Feb. 7, 1922, in Vergennes, Illinois, on the family farm to Adolph Endres and Ida (Eisenhauer) Endres.

He had worked as a laborer in construction, and he loved to garden, fish and collect treasures.

Mr. Endres was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Murphysboro. He had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and he was a member of the American Legion Post # 127 and the V.F.W. Post # 7190.

He loved his family and his country, and he defended his country to the end.

Charles married Harriette Kupferer on May 9, 1949, at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Murphysboro, and she preceded him in death on April 1, 2006.

He is survived by three children, Jeff Endres and his wife Deb Endres of Vandalia, Terry Endres and his wife Debbie of Murphysboro and Cheryl Endres and her partner Andrea Turner of Carbondale; four grandchildren, Jody Endres and his fiancee Amy Lewis, both of Elkville, Erin Endres of St. Louis, Mo., Megan Endres and her fiancee Josh Moulton of High Ridge, Mo. and Cory Endres of Murphysboro; one great grandson, Donnie Endres of Elkville; three sisters, Lucille Parrish and her husband Ira Parrish of Carbondale, Marie Higgins and her husband George Higgins of Benton and Pat McCombs of Newburgh, Ind. and one close friend, Raymond Batty of Murphysboro.

He was preceded in death by one son, Donald Endres; two brothers, Gene Endres and Alvin Endres; two sisters, Aurelia Berg and Frances Allard and his parents.
