</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Clara Marie Smith, 94, of Chester, IL, died July 10, 2010 at St. Ann's Healthcare Center, Chester, IL.

The daughter of Frank and Mary (Petrowske) Jany, she was born June 27, 1916 at Fort Gage, IL.

On April 11, 1942, she married William E. Smith in Chester, IL, and he preceded her in death in 1993.

Clara was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Chester; Blessed Virgin Mary Altar Sodality; and was an AFSCME Retiree.

Survivors include one sister, Alma Jany of Chester, IL; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Kerkhover of Perryville, MO; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister, Hilda Jany; and four brothers-Clarence, Stephen, Herman, and Elmer Jany.

A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chester, IL, at 11 a.m. with Father Gene Wojcik officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Chester. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 10:45 at Pechacek-McClure Funeral Home in Chester.

Memorials may be given for Masses or to St. Mary Catholic School.
