</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Verna Jean Campbell, 78, of Chester, IL, died July 1, 2010, at St. Ann's Healthcare Center in Chester.

The daughter of Wallace and Iva J. (Saul) Morgan, she was born September 26, 1931, in Murphysboro, IL.

On September 6, 1948, she married Herschel Edward Campbell in Pickett, AR, and he preceded her in death in 1970.

Verna Jean was a retired nurse's aid at both Memorial Hospital and St. Ann's Healthcare Center in Chester, IL. She was a member of Grace Church Ministries in Chester and was a volunteer with the Grace Church Visitation Program at St. Ann's Healthcare Center, Three Springs Lodge Nursing Home, and Assisted Living Manor at Craig Farms.

Survivors include four children-Phyllis Bixby of Jonesboro, IL, Randall (Myrna) Campbell of Chester, IL, C. D. (Nanette) Campbell of Marissa, IL, and Leann (Keith) Hindman of Carbondale, IL; three brothers-Alvin Lee (Mary) Morgan of Russellville, KY, Laverne (June) Morgan of Grand Tower, IL, and Carl Edward (Aliene) Morgan of Terre Haute, IN; 11 grandchildren-Lisa, Angela, Laura, Brian, Cherie, Ashley, Kelsey, Cassie, Ben, Jonathan, & Megan; three step-grandchildren-Chelsea, Kaylan, & Michael; seven great grandchildren-Amber, Trisha, Samantha, David, Nolan, Caleb, Miranda, & Brayden; and one great-great grandchild, Shaylyn. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one grandchild, Deanna; one great-grandchild, Jordan; and one son-in-law.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at Pechacek-McClure Funeral Chapel, Chester, IL, with Rev. Charles McGee officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Chester.

Memorials may be given to Southern Illinois Hospice or St. Ann's Healthcare Center.
