</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Helen Jane Nagel, 93, of Jerseyville, IL, formerly of Chester, IL, died June 22, 2010 at Jerseyville Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Jerseyville.
The daughter of William Ray and Edna Jane (Gorman) Smith, she was born December 31, 1916 in Nashville, IL.
On June 28, 1936, she married John H. Nagel in Chester, IL, and he preceded her in death in 2005.
Helen was a retired utility clerk at the Chester City Hall and was a lifetime member of the First Methodist Church in Chester. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and was a past matron, joining the Eastern Star when she was 18 years old and recently was awarded a 75-year pin. She became a member of Beta Sigma Phi in October 1956 and was also a member and past president of Memorial Hospital Auxiliary in Chester. She received the Circle of Excellence 38-year achievement award with the American Red Cross.
Survivors include two daughters-Etta Jane (Jerry) Leonard of Godfrey, IL, and Linda Sue (Jackie) Holcomb of Troy, IL; five grandchildren-John Michael (Patricia) Leonard of Clinton, MO, Joseph Raymond (Susan) Leonard of Alton, IL, Jack Edward (Andrea) Leonard of Godfrey, IL, Timothy Marshall Holcomb of Collinsville, IL, and Melinda Jane ((Fontez) Mark of Maryville, IL; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Johnny Ray Nagel; and one brother, Renwick Smith.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 26, 2010, at Pechacek-McClure Funeral Home, Chester, IL, with Rev. Jame Hahs officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Chester.
Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church in Chester or the Memorial Hospital of Chester.
