Adelaide Dunn

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Adelaide Dunn, age 90, of Pinckneyville, Ill., entered eternal rest on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at 6:45 a.m. in Dammert Geriatric Center at Our Lady of the Snows, Belleville, Ill.

Adelaide was born on Aug. 28, 1919 in Pinckneyville, Ill., a daughter to Thomas and Frances (Bruns) Dunn; one of ten children. She was a graduate of St. Bruno Catholic School and a member of St. Bruno Catholic Church. After graduating from Pinckneyville High School, she entered Southern Illinois University, earning a Bachelor's degree in English and Latin. In 1954, she received an MA in English from Washington State University, Pullman. She continued her education in several Illinois Universities and Oregon State University, earning 60 hours beyond her Master's. She began teaching at Fairfield and Marion High schools and then moved to Chicago Heights Bloom, where she taught for over 35 years. In all, Adelaide taught high school for 42 years before retiring to the family farm in 1985. Adelaide (Dede as she was known to many) served as the Pinckneyville Librarian from 1987-1990.

She was an active member of St. Bruno Parish where she was a past member of the Foundation Board and Cemetery Committee.

Adelaide is survived by a brother, Dr. Hubert Dunn of DeKalb, Ill.; three nephews Jerry (Nancy) Dunn of O'Fallon, Ill., Dr. John (Linda) M. Dunn of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Dan (Keri) Dunn of Georgetown, Tex.; four nieces, Frances (Robert) Schmitz of Belleville, Ill., Patricia Maveus of DeKalb, Ill., Cathy (Al) Johanssen, of Batavia, Ill., and Barbara (Michael) Holtz of Sycamore, Ill.; and many great, great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Muriel Dunn, Marian (Elmer) Johnson and Generose Dunn; five brothers, Paul, Frank, Lloyd, Charles, and Monsignor Meinrad; two nephews, David Dunn and James Dunn; and one niece, Mary (Allen) Dunn.

Adelaide touched all those who knew her with her kindness, sharp sense of humor, and her ability to take things in stride without complaining.

The family is especially grateful to the home health caretakers. A special thanks is extended to Sue Buschulte for leading the home health care team.

Thanks also to Father Brian and the St. Bruno Eucharistic Ministers for their many home visits.

Funeral mass was held at St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, Ill. on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Brian Barker officiating. Interment was in St. Bruno Catholic Cemetery.

Friends called at St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, Ill. on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. The rosary was recited at 9:00 a.m.
