Helen L. Higgerson

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Helen L. Higgerson, 86, of Du Quoin, passed away at 9:43 a.m., Friday, Nov. 13, 2009 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.

Helen had worked as a sales clerk for Hill's Fashion and McCollum's Drug Store. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Du Quoin. She was a member of Retail Clerks Union, V.F.W. Auxiliary, AARP, Perry County Senior Citizens, and St. John's Women Fellowship and Quilters.

She was born Jan. 5, 1923 at Du Quoin, Ill., the daughter of Herman and Mary (Woll) Hirsch.

She married Earl L. Higgerson on June 18, 1949 at Du Quoin, Ill. and he preceded her in death on June 14, 1970.

She is survived by one son - Larry Higgerson and wife Terry of Du Quoin, granddaughter - Kelley Englehardt and husband Caleb of Tuscola, Ill., grandson - Lance Higgerson of Du Quoin, grandson - Nathan Higgerson and wife Carrie of Waterloo, Ill., granddaughter - Leah Anderson of St. Charles, Mo., five great grandchildren - Evan Englehardt, Grant Higgerson, Claire Higgerson, Lydia Higgerson, and Brady Anderson, and two sisters - Mary Ann Ritter of Du Quoin and Hilda Johnson of Freeman Spur, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son - Earl R. Higgerson, six brothers - Adolf, Jacob, Herman "Dutch", Louis "Popeye", George, and Bill, and four sisters - Lena, Bertha, Elizabeth, and Susan.

Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m., Monday, Nov. 16, 2009 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Rich Luh officiating.

Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m., Sunday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial was in the McElvain Cemetery at Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the St. John's United Church of Christ in Du Quoin and will be accepted at the funeral home.
