Evelyn Gertrude Vancil

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Evelyn Gertrude Vancil, 86, of Du Quoin, passed away at 5:32 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009 at the Fairview Nursing Center in Du Quoin.

Evelyn was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Du Quoin.

She was born April 2, 1923 at Whitewater, Mo., the daughter of Omer and Ora (Crump) Wampler.

She married Lester Vancil on Aug. 8, 1944 at Murphysboro, Ill. and he preceded her in death on April 17, 1987.

She is survived by two sons - Gary Vancil and wife Donna of Scheller and Larry Vancil and wife Debbie of Du Quoin, two daughters - Marla Vancil and fiance Darrell Adams of Du Quoin, and Cathy Hutchings and husband Rick of Pinckneyville, five brothers and sisters - Norvel Wampler, Janice McClard, Gloria Proffer, and Janene Givens, all of Cape Girardeau, Mo., and Wayne Wampler of Texas, one nephew - Ronnie Wampler, and four nieces - Glenda Sizemore, Vickie Fletcher, Bonnie Harrison, and Connie McMillian, whom she raised after the death of their mother, 11 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters - Edna Sitzes, Ella Dee Corbin, and Ruth Proffer, one brother - James Wampler, and one granddaughter - Dawn Michelle Vancil.

Graveside services were at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009 at the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin with the family conducting the service.

Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the Fairview Nursing Center Activity Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.
