</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Valerie Jean Holmes, age 35 of Matthews, N.C. formerly of Du Quoin, Ill., passed away on Friday, Aug. 7, 2009 at 2:19 p.m. at her home.

Valerie was born on May 23, 1974 in Benton, Ill., a daughter to Carl and Delphia (Garner) Holmes.

Valerie is survived by her father and step-mother: Carl (Donna) Holmes of Matthews, N.C., one daughter: Daisha Holmes of Matthews, N.C., two brothers: Steve Garner of Matthews, N.C. and Darrell Lee (partner: Melinda Cross) Dodson of Cape Girardeau, Mo., one sister: Lashonda Holmes of Matthews, N.C., paternal grandmother: Thelma Holmes of Benton, Ill., one niece: Hatilyn Holmes, three nephews: Carl Garner, Shane Dodson and Dalton Dodson, step-father: Darrell Dodson, and three step-sisters and one step-brother all of Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her mother: Delphia Garner Dodson, one daughter: Autumn Angel Holmes, one brother: Carl James Holmes and maternal grandmother: Daisy McCormack.

Funeral services were held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Du Quoin, Ill. on Wednesday, Aug.12, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Joseph Crow officiating. Interment was in Old Du Quoin Cemetery, Du Quoin, Ill.

Friends were able to call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Du Quoin, Ill. on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
