Robert E. Bartle
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Robert E. Bartle, age 86, of Pinckneyville, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2009 at 1:25 p.m. in Sparta Community Hospital, Sparta.
Bob was born on January 15, 1923 in Pinckneyville, a son to Elvis F. and Ina (Sawyer) Bartle. On February 24, 1944, he married Virginia C. Morgenstern in Pinckneyville, and she survives. Bob was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Pinckneyville, where he sang in the choir for over 50 years, a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during World War II and the Korean War, where he was a pilot and 1st Lieutenant, flying light bombers and transports and he continued to love flying privately. He was in partnership with Bartle Brothers Grocery Store working as a butcher in the Meat Department for over 35 years. Bob served on the District #50 Board for 15 years, the Pinckneyville Community Hospital Board for 9 years, past president of the Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club, chairman of the local draft board, served on the Board of Directors of the First National Bank of Pinckneyville for 40 years and was a 32nd Degree Mason. Bob proudly served his country and his community and loved spending time with his family.
Bob is survived by his wife, two daughters: Joyce (Danny) Wildermuth of Pinckneyville, and June Bibby of Robinson, three grandchildren: Jeannie Bibby, Bobby (Angela) Wildermuth and Dee (Brian) Morgan, four great-grandchildren: Logan and Madalyn Wildermuth and Payton and Isabella Morgan, two sisters: Minta Jean Hemphill of Maryland and Wilma Irene Berg of Park Ridge, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers-in-law: Chuck Hemphill and Robert Berg
Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Pinckneyville, on Thursday, June 25, 2009 at 11 a.m. with Reverend Billy G. Hahs officiating. Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Pinckneyville.
Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, on Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and then on Thursday at the First United Methodist Church, Pinckneyville, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
