Charles S. Scharf
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Charles S. Scharf, 64, of Dowell, passed away at 9:40 a.m., Saturday, June 20, 2009 at the Memorial Hospital at Carbondale.
Charles had worked as a truck driver. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He loved fishing and being on the water.
He was born September 28, 1944 at Joliet, the son of Arthur and Charlotte (Madrigal) Scharf.
He married Terry L. Conner on June 30, 1982 at Du Quoin, and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Dowell, four children - Kieya Conner and Charles Spurgeon of Dowell, Shawn Day and wife Jenny of Carterville, Stacey Langguth of Elkville, and Dana Taylor and husband Joe of Evansville, Ind., his father - Arthur Scharf of Elkville, two sisters - Carmen McCleland of Streator, and Nancy Proud and husband Bruce of Elkville, one brother - Arthur Scharf, Jr. of Chadsworth, nine grandchildren - Becky McCalla, Cody Conner, Dalton Day, Mercedes Day, Katie Taylor, Selena Spurgeon, Charles Spurgeon, Xander Day, and Brody Taylor, one great grandchild - Ryan McCalla, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Memorial services will be at Noon, Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Daryl Williams officiating.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
