Maurice Lacy Hill

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Maurice Lacy Hill, 68, of Du Quoin, passed away at 4:55 p.m., Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at the VA Medical Center in Marion.

Maurice had worked as a Pinckneyville Police Department Officer and then worked as Chief Deputy Sheriff under Sheriff Eddie Rainwater. He had also worked as a Du Quoin Police Officer and as a Du Quoin City Police Dispatcher from August of 1997 until October of 2003. He had worked at Old Ben #25 Mine in West Frankfort for eighteen years as an electrician. He was a member of the Spirit of Life Christian Church in Du Quoin. He was a member of the Du Quoin American Legion Post 647 and was a U.S. Navy veteran.

He was born October 9, 1940 at Pinckneyville, the son of Loren and Edna (Myers) Hill.

He married Nina H. McElvain on July 27, 1970 at Pinckneyville and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, three children - Christy Watt of Carbondale, Kim Buschschulte and husband David of Wood River, and Mike Hill and wife Shannon of LaVergne, Tenn., his mother - Edna Hill of Du Quoin, three grandchildren - Blake, Cameron, and Lance Hill, all of LaVergne, Tenn., two brothers - Paul Hill and wife Joy of Pinckneyville, and Donald Hill of Quartzside, Ariz., three sisters - Ruth Ann Allen and husband Norman of Salome, Ariz., Marilyn Kelly and husband Danny of White Water, Colo., and Linda Minnick and husband Tony of Cheyenne, WY, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, one brother - Melvin Hill and his wife Betty.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, May 11, 2009 at the Spirit of Life Christian Church in Du Quoin with Rev. Gerald Wright officiating.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Monday.

Burial will be in the McElvain Cemetery at Du Quoin.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin American Legion and V.F.W.

Friends may make memorials to the American Cancer Society, Perry County Humane Society, or donor's choice and will be accepted at the funeral home.
