</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Otis C. Schmerbauch, 95, of Chester, IL, died April 20, 2009 at Memorial Hospital, Chester, IL.

The son of Louis J. and Lottie (Buatte) Schmerbauch, he was born October 14, 1913, on Kaskaskia, IL.

In 1944 he married Mathilda J. Lee in Auburn, WA, and she preceded him in death in 2001.

Otis was a retired Civil Service clerk at the record center. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chester, IL and a life member of VFW Post #3553 in Chester.

Survivors include one son, Samuel O. Schmerbauch of Chester, IL; two brothers-Paul J. Schmerbauch of Chester, IL and James Schmerbauch of Sacramento, CA; one sister, Nora Flynn of San Bernardino, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; six brothers; and one sister.

A Funeral Mass was held Friday, April 24, 2009 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Chester, IL with Msgr. Dennis Schaefer & Rev. Gene Wojcik officiating. Burial was in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children's Hospital, or for Family choice.
