Dr. Connie J. Armstrong
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Dr. Connie J. Armstrong, Ph.D, 61, of Du Quoin, passed away at 2:25 a.m., Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at the Fair Acres Nursing Home in Du Quoin.
Connie was an Associate Professor at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in the Department of Technical Careers. She had received her Ph.D from Southern Illinois University in 1987. She was a member of the Spirit of Life Christian Church in Du Quoin. She was the founding member of the Du Quoin Girls Club. Connie was a member of SIU Alumni Association, Beta Phi Sorority, and was the first Director of the Gold Plate Program in Du Quoin. She was the founding member of the Alzheimer's Association of Southern Illinois. Connie enjoyed trap shooting events with the SV High School Outdoorsman Club. She also enjoyed playing her alter ego "Madge" on the Z100 Morning Show with Kent and Julie.
She was born April 27, 1947 at Caruthersville, Mo., the daughter of James and Lotric (Taylor) Norman.
She married Chet Armstrong on September 8, 1972 at Du Quoin, and he survives.
She is survived by her husband of Du Quoin, one daughter - Jana Kuhnert and husband Todd of Tamaroa, one son - Chester Armstrong and companion Jennie Longwell of Du Quoin, her mother - Lotric Norman of Caruthersville, Mo., four grandchildren - Charlie Kuhnert, Samuel Kuhnert, and Tucker Kuhnert, all of Tamaroa, and Lylah Armstrong of Du Quoin, one sister - Mickey Passmore of Harrison, Ariz., one brother - Glen Norman and wife Elaine of Cecelia, Ky., her father-in-law - Robert Armstrong of Du Quoin, her longtime caregiver - Deliah Woodcock, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father and one brother - Jimmy Norman.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 18, 2009 at the Spirit of Life Christian Church in Du Quoin with Rev. Gerald Wright officiating.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the church on Saturday.
Friends may make memorials to Dr. Connie Armstrong Legacy Scholarship, making the donation to SIU Alumni Foundation and will be accepted at the funeral home.
