Florence Allen (Dillow) Addison

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Florence Allen (Dillow) Addison, 93, of Elkville, passed away at 5:25 P.M., Sunday, March 1, 2009 at the Fair Acres Nursing Home in Du Quoin.

Florence had been a school teacher. In 1935, she had taught at the Lick Creek School, a one room rural school in Union County. From 1936 until 1937, she taught at Tunnel Hill School, Southeast of Goreville. In 1938, she taught at Rendleman School, West of Alto Pass. In 1939 until 1940, she taught at Burroughs School, West of Dowell. From 1942 until 1976, she taught at Elkville Public School District. She started teaching Sunday School at age sixteen at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Union County. From 1939 until 2006, she taught Sunday School at Elkville Baptist Church, where she was a member. In 1971, she was a charter member of the Elkville Reading Center, which was started in one room of Irene Holiday's house in Elkville. In 1972, the Reading Center moved from there to the Kopps Meat Market Building in Elkville and in 1978 it moved to the Downs Building in Elkville, where it is currently located. In 1984, it became known as the Elkville Public Library District. In 1991, it became the Rick Warren Memorial Public Library. In 2004, it annexed the entire Elverado School District as part of the library. Florence remained on the board of the library until 2006.

She was born July 21, 1915 at Buffalo Gap, IL, the daughter of Lafayette and Bertha (Lockard) Dillow.

She married Louis Elliott Addison on June 6, 1937 at Valier, IL and he preceded her in death on December 19, 1996.

She is survived by one daughter - Carolyn Addison of Elkville, five nephews - Darrell Dillow and wife Sandy of Buffalo Gap, IL, Shane Dillow of Ft. Bragg, NC, David Dillow and wife Kim of Buffalo Gap, IL, Nathan Dillow and wife Leslie of Ava, IL, and Douglas Dillow of Given, WV.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers - Adolphus Dillow and Eugene Dillow.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at the Elkville Baptist Church in Elkville with Rev. Daryl Williams officiating.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 P.M., Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin and from 10 AM until the time of service at the church on Wednesday.

Burial will be in the Elkville Cemetery at Elkville.

Friends may make memorials to the Florence Addison Scholarship or Rick Warren Memorial Public Library and will be accepted at the funeral home.
