Robert Lewis Tanner

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Robert Lewis Tanner age 83, of Du Quoin, IL, formerly of Danville, IL, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at 10:03 p.m. in Memorial Hospital, Carbondale, IL.

Robert was born on August 14, 1925 in Danville, IL, a son to Fred William and Alta Lucille (Snider) Tanner. On June 12, 1948, he married Shirley A. Cooper in Danville, IL and she survives. Robert was a member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Desoto, IL, he served in the United States Navy, during WW II with the Seabees from July 18, 1943 to February 3, 1946 as a Carpenters Mate Second Class, he worked as a coal miner for Amax Coal Company for 38 years, was a member of the Elks Lodge and was a member of the American Legion, Du Quoin, IL. Robert was an avid Cubs fan, loved to golf and was married to his loving wife Shirley for 60 years.

He is survived by his wife, four children: Cheryl Kilgore of Louisville, KY, Karen (Gary) Kelly of Louisville, KY, Jeffrey (Vickie) Tanner of Pinckneyville, IL and Mary (Stan) Pollmann of Independence, MO, six grandchildren: Becky and Scott Kilgore, Brad and Brian Kelly, Tyson Tanner and Peyton (Jon) Gregory and one great-granddaughter: Ava Gregory.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Van and Freddy Tanner and one sister: Mildred Filicsky

Funeral services will be held at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Desoto, IL on Monday, February 2, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Timothy Bean officiating.

Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Du Quoin, IL on Sunday, February 1, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Church, and on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Sunset Funeral Home, Danville, IL. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Danville, IL

Memorials may be made to Mt. Calvary Church Elevator Fund.
