Ottie Paul Carter

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Ottie Paul Carter, age 91, of Du Quoin, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at 2 p.m. in Friendship Manor Nursing Home, Nashville.

Ottie was born on November 30, 1917 in Vienna, a son to William and Nora (Commer) Carter. On April 23, 1945 he married Margaret E. Bridenstine in Du Quoin, and she preceded him in death on January 29, 2007. Ottie was a Specialist First Class in the United States Navy, serving during World War II, was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Herrin, where he served as an elder and deacon, he worked for Midwest Dairy in Du Quoin as a young man, was the Director Of Data Processing at the University of Illinois Chicago Campus for over 25 years, and was a longtime member of the American Legion Post in Du Quoin. Ottie loved his work and learning new things. He enjoyed golf and travel.

He is survived by three sisters-in-law: Marceil Reminger of Du Quoin, Mary Lou (Bill) Hammack of Pinckneyville, and Catherine Khory of Herrin, one brother-in-law: Jess Bridenstine of Daytona Beach Shores, Fla., and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Du Quoin, on Saturday February 7, 2009 at 11 a.m. with Reverend Michael Neubert officiating. Interment will be in I.O.O.F Cemetery, Du Quoin.

Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Du Quoin, on Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m.
