Candidates in April Elections to Start Filing Monday

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Candidates begin filing petitions next week for dozens of local offices, including school board seats and village offices, according to Perry County Clerk Kevin Kern. The seats will be filled at the Consolidated Election to be held on Tuesday, April 7.

Petition filings begin either Monday, Jan. 19 or Tuesday, Jan. 20, depending on whether the district or municipality is observing the Martin Luther King Day holiday. All petition filings will end at the close of business on Monday, Jan. 26.

For school board seats, interested candidates should contact the appropriate school district office to obtain necessary forms and determine petition filing hours each day. All school districts, including Du Quoin District 300, Pinckneyville High School District 101, Pinckneyville Grade School District 50, Community Consolidated School District 204, Tamaroa Grade School District 5, Trico Community Unit District 176 and Coulterville Unit District 1 will elect board members. Fifty signatures from registered voters are required for all school districts. Terms of school board members are four years.

Candidates for village office should contact the village clerk at village hall. The villages of Cutler, Tamaroa, St. Johns and Willisville will all elect a Village President (Mayor), Village Clerk and several Village Trustees. Signature requirements for village office vary from town to town, but are quite small. Terms of all offices are for four years, except for any unexpired terms.

In addition, the City of Du Quoin will elect one city commissioner for an un-expired two-year term. This is to fill the vacancy created by the death of City Commissioner Richard Fronek. The seat is now held by Linda Fronek.

In addition, trustees will be elected to all community college districts. Potential candidates should contact the Rend Lake College, John A. Logan College or Southwestern Illinois College administrative offices for the appropriate information.
