Steeleville to clean water tower during winter months

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Steeleville Village Board voted unanimously to have the two village water towers cleaned in the next few months. The towers were inspected and passed, though they were said to be rather dirty. The plan is to clean the tower near the city park first, during the winter months. Patronage is likely to be down during the winter months and will less likely be a problem for people who are out to enjoy the park. The process will involve draining the tank, disinfecting the inside, and, thus, refilling it. The outside of the tank will also be cleaned. The cost is: $3,000 to clean the inside and $3,400 to clean the outside. The water tower near the industrial park will be cleaned during the summer.

The intersection at Broadway and Sparta will possibly be the site of a new four-way stop. The intersection meets all the criteria to become a four-way stop. There are already stop signs on the Sparta side of the intersection but not on Broadway. It is proposed that accidents will less likely happen because of a four way stop. There have been a number of collisions at the intersection over the years resulting in at least one fatality. There will be an informational meeting involving members of the Illinois State Police and IDOT concerning this proposal in the upcoming weeks. The meeting will be open to the public.
