Red Bud goes 2-2 in Holiday Tournament
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Red Bud Musketeers went 2-3 at the Freeburg/Columbia Holiday Tournament that took place from Dec. 26-30. In the four day event, they squared off against four teams: Triad, Collinsville, Gibault, and Waterloo. This gives the Musketeers an overall record of 7-6, while going 0-3 in their conference as of this tournament.
The Musketeers lost their first match-up against Triad , 62-60. Total shooting percentage from the floor was 43%. They hit 46% of their 2-point attempts and 39% of their shots from beyond the arc. From the charity line, the Musketeers hit 63%. Adam Kunkel, 1, took the high score of the game with 20-points in six 2-point field goals, one 3-point field goal, and five of six free throw attempts. He shot 43% from the floor.
In their second face-off, the Musketeers defeated the Collinsville JV, 43-21. They shot 40% from the floor, with 54% of their 2-pointers hitting the mark while only 9% of their 3-pointers dropped in. At the foul line, the team hit 56%, drilling 14 of 25. Tim Conway, 23, led the team in points, hitting five field goals and two free throws, for 12-points. From the court, Conway shot 63% and from the foul line, 29%. He stole three balls, snagged three offensive rebounds, and had two assists.
The Musketeers lost their third game against Gibault, 46-39. With their least accurate game of the tournament, the team shot 33% from the floor. 41% of their 2-point field goals made it home and 18% of their 3-pointers went in. In contrast, the Musketeers had an excellent night at the foul line, hitting 88% of their attempts. Kunkel had high points yet again but shared the prestige with Chance Albertson, 32. They both shot 15-points in the game. Albertson hit for 50% from the court, in two 2-point field goals and three 3-point field goals. He shot 100% from the foul line, hitting both of his free throw attempts. Kunkel hit 55% of his 2-point field goals and missed all four of his 3-point attempts. Hitting three of four free throws, Kunkel shot 75% from the foul line.
In the Musketeers fourth round of the tournament, the Musketeers defeated Waterloo, 59-55. The team shot for 45% from the floor, hitting 17 of 38 shots. From inside the arc, the Musketeers hit 52% while shooting 33% from outside. They hit 80% from the charity line. Kunkel was the point leader for the last time of the tournament, shooting 29-points for the Musketeers. He hit seven 2-pointers, one 3-pointer, and 12 of his 14 attempts from the line.
In the fifth and final round, the Musketeers were defeated by Freeburg, 71-58. The Musketeers shot 31% from the floor, hitting 35% of their 2-pointers and 25% of their 3-pointer field goals. Once again showing their accuracy from the foul line, they shot for 73%. Conway led the team in points in their last display during the tournament with 17-points. He shot 50% from inside, hitting seven 2-point field goals while hitting three of four from the charity line. Conway snagged seven offensive rebounds, two defensive rebounds, stole five balls, and had three personal fouls.
The Musketeers scored a tournament total of 259 points, shooting for 36% in four days. Their 2-point field goal average was 46% while they shot for 26% from beyond the arc. Their free throw average was 70%. The Musketeers had tournament totals of: 44 offensive rebounds, 70 defensive rebounds, 63 turnovers, and 83 personal fouls. Red Bud will challenge Freeburg at home on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009.
