The Lady Indians- idle until after the holiday break- lost for a 10th straight time and will enter 2009's portion of its schedule with a 1-10 record.

Du Quoin led 8-2 early on, but bogged down against Century's match-up zone defense and constant full-court pressure. As the first period ended, the Lady Indians trailed 15-14.

"We had a great start by beating their pressure but later struggled against the zone," Du Quoin coach Shawn File said. "We had a couple of large scoring lulls during the second and third quarter that put us back in the hole."

With the score 24-22 late in the second quarter, the Lady Centurions started their run with a basket by Armetrice Harris and went ahead 31-22 on Kayla Eddington's three-pointer.

Natalie Thurston's drive to the hoop completed the flurry, staking Century to an 11-point lead at intermission.

Du Quoin could get no closer as another three by Eddington, the third of six the sophomore guard connected on, pushed Century ahead by 14 (36-22) just 13 seconds into the third period.

Eddington had 11 points during the frame as the Lady Centurions surged in front 53-33 by period's end.

"We could not find any kind of answer to the Eddington girl," File said. "She's a very good player who scored and passed well.

Freshman guard Jessica Hirsch topped Du Quoin with a team-high 16 points.

No other Lady Indian, however, could net more than the six points of Stefanie Gates and Heather Cavins.

Shaylyn Little had five with five others- Cadey Hess, Michaela Brown, Keawna Anders, Ashley Ward and Cashmeire Bledsoe- all scoring four points.

Eddington's 29 topped Century. Harris added 18 and Savanna Butler 11.

In Monday's junior varsity game, Du Quoin (3-5) rolled to a 44-26 victory. A. Ward's 10 points led the way. Gates and Brown each netted seven points.
