Tuesday Night's Junior High Roundup

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ With a dominating second half, Du Quoin (Middle School) pulled away to glide past Junior Southwestern Egyptian Conference (Jr. SWEC) rival Pinckneyville (Junior High School) Tuesday night.

The final score was 53-31 as DMS improved to 5-2, 3-0 in loop play. Pinckneyville's marks are 6-6 and 0-4.

"We continue to improve with our execution offensively each game," DMS coach Ryan Heape said." But we've got to start converting better and making a higher percentage of our foul shots."

The Warriors and PJHS were knotted at 21-21 to start the third quarter, but began to quickly pull away. Brenden Fred's runner at the horn ended the frame, pushing DMS ahead 41-29. Pinckneyville had just one field goal in the last quarter.

Fred (14) and Travis Chapman (10) were leading scorers for the Warriors with Nate Boss and Austin Mansker each netting nine points.

Mansker (five) led in rebounding and assists with Shayne Baxter adding six steals.

All totalled, DMS had 22 steals and 31 deflections.

Christopher Priebe (10) and Caleb Howard (seven) were the top Junior Panther scorers.

In the seventh grade game, DMS (4-1, 2-1) posted a convincing 39-22 victory.

Camden Youngman (12 points, seven rebounds) and Spencer Cook (10 points) paced the young Warriors, who led 32-11 to begin the final quarter.

On Monday, PJHS notched its sixth varsity win with a 55-21 thrashing of host Sesser-Valier.

Priebe and Howard each had 10 points with Chaz Ruffino scoring eight.

Will Timpner, Brandon Edwards and Logan Woods all contributed six.

S-V won the seventh grade game, 33-29.

o DMS GIRLS ROLL

Monday night, the Lady Warriors (11-3) romped past Christopher (Junior High School) 52-33 as Rebekah Maddox poured in 29 points.

Cassidy Rice netted seven points with Nichole Jackson tossing in six more.

DMS was ahead 27-13 by halftime.

In the seventh grade game, the Lady Warriors (5-4) nudged past Christopher 29-21 as Bailie Caldwell netted 12 points.

o EJHS WINS OPENER

At the Tamaroa/St. Bruno Tournament Tuesday, Elverado used a balanced scoring attack to defeat Chester (Junior High School) 56-43.

The Junior Falcons were minus leading scorer and rebounder Jake Lipe (injury), but had double-digit points from Josh Sarensen (14), Brian McClanahan (13) and Austin Mapps (12).

Cody Ellett (nine points) and Kyle Whittington (eight points) were also solid.

"With Jake out I thought the kids came together and played a great game," EJHS coach Garrett Janello said. "Everyone contributed and its a good win for us."

Tourney play continues for Elverado Wednesday against Oakdale.

o EJHS GIRLS

Tuesday night, the Junior Lady Falcons (6-7, 3-3) of coach Donette Wheatley rolled past Herrin (Our Lady of Mount Carmel Academy) 30-11 in Vergennes.

Hannah Rawson had nine points.

EJHS (6-5, 5-1) won the seventh grade game, 15-12.
