Fern L. Spangler

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Fern L. Spangler, 94, of Du Quoin, passed away at 8:07 p.m., Sunday, November 16, 2008 at the Fairview Nursing Center in Du Quoin.

Fern was a homemaker. She was a member of Sunfield Baptist Church. She had been a Sunday School teacher for thirty-five years and had worked in the bus ministry with the church.

She was born June 12, 1914 at Cloud Chief, OK, the daughter of Charles and Goldie (Devor) McClanahan.

She married James H. Spangler on June 3, 1931 at Du Quoin, IL and he preceded her in death on October 9, 1989.

She is survived by two daughters - Peggy Holmes and Wanda Huite and husband Chuck, all of Du Quoin, one son - James D. Spangler and wife Lydie of Du Quoin, one sister - Iris Morgan of Du Quoin, five grandchildren, several great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son-in-law - Harold Holmes, four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Everett L. Freeman officiating.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the Sunfield Baptist Church or the Carmi Children's Home and will be accepted at the funeral home.
