George J. Anderson Jr.
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ George J. Anderson, Jr., 87, of Du Quoin, passed away at 7:31 p.m., Thursday, October 9, 2008 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
George had worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of the St. John's United Church of Christ in Du Quoin. He was a charter member of the A-Wa-We-Go Tribe Campers and enjoyed camping. He was a member of the Kentucky Colonels and member of the Letter Carriers Association. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He was born March 17, 1921 at Bluford, the son of George J. and Ethel L. (Mayers) Anderson. He married Ida Ruth Davison on August 15, 1942 at Du Quoin, and she preceded him in death on April 16, 2004.
He is survived by seven children - Jane Bird and husband Richard of Du Quoin, Joan Wenrick and husband Lenny of Nevada, Bonnie Hughes and husband Marty of Texas, Betty Schroeder and husband Tim of Minnesota, Brenda Craven and husband Bill of Springfield, Barbie Fred and fiancÈ Danny McArthur of Du Quoin, and George "Bud" Anderson and wife Amy of Tennessee, one sister - Gertrude "Trudy" Cicardo of Chester, nineteen grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Monday, October 13, at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Bill Causer officiating.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion.
