Du Quoin Soph Football Blanks Chester
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Du Quoin High School's Junior Varsity Football team evened its record at 2-2 Monday, returning from Chester with an impressive 20-0 victory.
The young Indians-who were opening River-to-River Conference play in the Mississippi Division-host Pinckneyville next week.
Jerrill Holmes rushed for 124 yards on 19 carries for Du Quoin with Storm Clarry (63 yards, 15 carries) adding plenty of support.
Karson Hoffman, who a 46-yard TD run waved off by penalty, chipped in with 36 yards.
In the first quarter, barely four minutes into the game, DHS went ahead to stay on Trent Bigham's 20-yard touchdown pass to Chaz Bland.
Brandon George kicked the point-after for a 7-0 edge.
Just 12.1 seconds remained in the opening half when the Indians scored again, this time on Bigham's three-yard run.
Another kick by George pushed Du Quoin in front 14-0.
Midway through the third quarter, Bigham scored the final TD on a 1-yard dive.
Passing-wise, Bigham connected on 5-of-8 attempts for 58 yards.
James Williams (31 yards) and Bland (27) were the two targets.
Defensively, Bland recorded nine tackles. Holmes added seven stops and Clarry six. Bigham, Brock Morgenstern, Kenny Kabat, Luchie Porter and Logan Spain all recorded five stops.
Hoffman intercepted a pass with Bland and Bryce Hamburger recovering fumbles.
Spain had a quarterback sack.
