New truck for Chester City departments
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The City of Chester needs various vehicles and equipment to provide all the maintenance, utility and street services for residents. Recently, a new "used" vehicle was purchased by the City of Chester for use by several City departments. This additional vehicle is a 2006 Ford F750 Dump Truck.
The truck came from Ford Motor Credit and was located through careful research done by Alderman Dean Cook. The well-equipped truck has very low mileage of only 30,000 miles and was purchased for $38,000. It has a 260 horsepower diesel engine with a heavy duty automatic transmission. All types of materials will be hauled with the truck including rock, sand, dirt, and sludge. It is also equipped with a special feature of an insulated bed and a retractable tarp for the bed. This will be beneficial for hauling cold mix for street improvements since the insulated covered bed will keep the material hot during transport.
This additional multi-use dump truck will be shared by the City departments and the cost was shared through the Gas, Water and Maintenance departments. It is expected to get better gas mileage than the current Freightliner truck. This purchase will allow the City to retire the older 1988 IHC dump truck later this year after the leaf pick-up program is complete.
The City of Chester strives to keep and maintain serviceable vehicles in order to provide all the services to residents. The efforts of Alderman Dean Cook are appreciated for researching and locateing this attractive, useful and versatile vehicle. Be sure to watch for it in action around town!
