Chester man arrested at Apple Festival hester man

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[On Thursday, evening, September 11, 2008, at 8:44 p.m., Murphysboro officers were made aware of a battery that had occurred at the carnival of the Apple Festival. Witnesses identified a white male as the suspect, but when he was approached by officers, he fled north on foot, and crossed Walnut Street into an alley. Responding officers quickly captured the suspect, identified as Russell Helmers, 30, of Chester, Illinois, at 16th and Pine Streets. Helmers was issued citations for Obstructing a Peace Officer, Violation of an Order of Protection, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was processed, then incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail pending a bond hearing.
