Elverado, Pinckneyville Volleyball Win Monday Matches
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ For the first time since 1997-11 years ago-Elverado High School owns a varsity volleyball victory over Hamilton County.
Monday night in the Falcon Pit, the Lady Falcons rolled to 25-13 and 25-15 against their Black Diamond Conference rival. Now winners of four straight, Elverado's 4-1 and carries a 3-1 BDC record into Thursday's match at Eldorado.
"We did an exceptionally good job tonight keeping them on the defensive," Lady Falcons coach Donette Wheatley said. "This was a great team effort in every aspect of the game."
Katie Watts had 10 points at the serving line with four aces. Kelsey Tuthill added seven points and Mallory Winthrop six. Julia Bost (four points) wasn't far behind.
Tuthill and Bost combined for 33 sets. Each had five assists.
Tuthill also led with five kills and six digs. Jennifer Yates (four kills), Watts (five kills, six digs) and Jenna Cochran (seven digs) also turned in strong efforts. Winthrop's match included three kills and three blocks.
Hanna Scott added a block and five digs.
Elverado (5-4, 2-2) posted 25-20 and 27-25 wins over HamCo in the junior varsity match. The Lady Falcons had at least three points from seven different players with Chelsea Cochran (25-for-25, six assists) and Arika Mace (20-for-20, three assists) perfect in setting.
Kelsi Teague (eight) led in digs with Tiffany Yearian making eight kills.
HamCo won the freshman match against EHS. Scores were 8-25, 16-25, 17-25. Elverado's first year squad is 1-3-1, 1-2-1. Jessica Watts had seven points, four kills, two assists and two digs.
Saturday, the Lady Falcons were 2-2 and finished third in the Crab Orchard frosh-soph tournament.
EHS defeated Carrier Mills (25-20, 25-23) and Vienna (25-16, 25-11) but lost to Massac County (20-25, 23-25) and eventual champion Crab Orchard (17-25, 17-25).
Yearian represented Elverado on the All-Tourney team.
PCHS WINS
In Thomas Gym Monday, Pinckneyville Community High School won its final River-to-River Conference tune-up over Trico.
The 24-26, 25-7, 25-17 win over Trico included 15 kills from Mandi Kellerman. She also had four blocks.
Elizabeth Wittmer contributed four kills and two blocks with Lauren Winter adding two kills and two blocks.
Winter led the way with 16 assists. At the serving line, Haleigh Hagood (15-for-16) and Nicole Cheek (10-for-11) enjoyed big nights.
Mo Ramsey and Winter combined to go 15-of-17 in service.
"We were slow to start, Lady Panthers coach Katie Shaneyfelt admitted. "But once we decided to play there was no stopping us."
Pinckneyville (4-7) hosts Nashville Tuesday.
