DMS Squads Split at Nashville

Du Quoin (Middle School) continued its dominating march through Junior
Southwestern Egyptian Conference (Jr. SWEC) play Wednesday, whitewashing
Nashville (Middle School) 16-0 in five innings.
The Warriors (9-0) are 7-0 in league action entering Thursday¹s home
game against second place Murphysboro (Middle School) and scored 11 times in
the opening two innings at Nashville.
Nate Boss went 4-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and five RBI while
Austin Mansker added a three-run homer while knocking in four runs.
Brenden Fred bopped two hits with run-scoring safeties also provided by
Garrett Dorsey, Jonah Spencer, Dalton Donoghue and Travis Chapman.
Jacob O¹Rourke contributed a basehit.
Fred (2-0) and Camden Mercier combined for the pitching win, striking
out six and allowing just one hit.
SOFTBALL
Scoring three unearned runs, Nashville (Middle School) moved back into
the top spot of the Junior Southwestern Egyptian Conference (Jr. SWEC)
softball standings Wednesday.
The Junior Hornets edged Du Quoin (Middle School) 4-2, opening a
one-game lead in the loop race.
Now 12-2 overall, DMS has a 6-2 conference mark. Nashville¹s record is
7-1. Last fall, the two rivals shared the league crown.
Du Quoin trailed 3-0 after three innings and could never make the ground
up, despite out-hitting Nashville 6-4.
The Lady Warriors scored in the fourth inning on Kate Toler¹s sacrifice
fly and added a single tally two frames later when Amanda Williams smacked
an over-the-fence home run.
Rebekah Maddox and Williams each had two hits for DMS with Hadley Marek
and Cassidy Hill adding safeties.
Cassidy Rice (12-2) suffered the pitching loss, striking out eight.
The Lady Warriors continue a busy week with Thursday¹s home game against
Murphysboro.
