Vestal V. Bird

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Vestal V. Bird, 88, of Westside Care Center in West Frankfort, formerly of Du Quoin, passed away at 7:15 a.m., Thursday, April 24, 2008 at the Westside Care Center in West Frankfort.

Vestal had worked for twenty-eight years as a LPN at the Pinckneyville Hospital. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin and Euzelian Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary.

She was born April 29, 1919 at Herrin, the daughter of Raymond and Ruby (Belford) York.

She married Lester Bird on May 14, 1949 at Hernando, Miss., and he preceded her in death on May 22, 1991.

She is survived by two daughters, Leah Rae Hughes of West Frankfort, and Cindy Osborne and husband Nick of Mt. Vernon; one son, Randall Marshall Bird and wife Nancy of Du Quoin; one sister, Imogene McMillan of O'Fallon; ten grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son-in-law, Hiram Hughes; and one grandson, Mark Hughes.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 26, at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Dr. Brett Beasley officiating.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
