James Cobin

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[James Richard Cobin, 72, of Dowell, passed away at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, at his residence.

Jim had been owner and operator of Cobin Salvage Company Inc. He was a member of the Protection of Virgin Mary Orthodox Church at Royalton. He was a U.S. Army veteran and member of the Dowell American Legion Post 975.

He was born Dec. 5, 1935, at Dowell, the son of Frank and Mildred (Creech) Cobin.

He married Joyce Elaine Doctorman on Dec. 17, 1955, at Dowell, and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Dowell; two daughters, Charity Lynn Newborn and husband Shawn of Dowell and Rebecca J. Lopez and husband Nick of Elkville; four grandchildren, Shelby Newborn, Shawna Newborn, Jonathan Cavins and Jordan Cavins; his step-mother, Bobbie Cobin of Elkville; his step-brother, Laverne Rees and wife Janie of Murphysboro; his step-sister, Jane Gray and husband Gene of Florida; an uncle, George Cobin of Dowell; an aunt, Mary Ardoin of Meterie, La.; and nieces, nephews and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Protection of Virgin Mary Orthodox Church in Royalton with Fr. George Gulin officiating.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Requiem Parastas will be at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the Protection of Virgin Mary Orthodox Cemetery in Royalton.

Memorials can be made to the Protection of Virgin Mary Orthodox Church or Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Dowell American Legion Post 975 and Murphysboro American Legion Post 127.
