SIJBL, PONY Softball Tournament Trail

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Last Friday in Creal Springs, Tamaroa Angels#2 faced off with Elkville for the Championship of the Southern Illinois Junior Baseball League (SIIJBL) Angels Division.

The game lived up to its championship billing as the two teams battled for the title for 2 1/2 hours in sweltering heat with neither team backing down and finally calling it a 0 - 0 tie.

Neither team could plate a run against the other teams pitcher even after going to the international tie-breaker the last 4 innings.

All told in the game it had 58 strike-outs with Tamaroa's pitcher Brooklyn Morrow throwing a no-hitter striking out 30 Elkville batters while walking only three and Elkville's pitcher, Brittany Prescott striking out 28 Tamaroa batters while walking only five.

The only hit of the game was by Tamaroa's Callie Bigham in the fifth inning.

After conferring with the umpires and due to the extreme heat, both sides decided in the name of safety to declare both Tamaroa and Elkville Co-Champions of the 15 team Angels division tourney.

Tamaroa advanced to the championship game after beating the #1 seed Tamaroa #1 team 5-3 and Elkville advanced by beating Roylaton 13-12 in extra innings.

Bronco All-Stars Blast Mt. Carmel

At the PONY League Zone Softball Tournament in Marion, the Du Quoin Bronco All-Star girls/Burke Manufacturing team defeated Mt. Carmel 16-6.

Aubrey Davis pitched a complete game for the win.

Rebecca Woodside was 1- for -2 with a walk and two RBI.

Hadley Marek was 2 -for- 3, and Sidney Heunman reached base in all three plate appearances.

The team resumes play in the third round of the tournament Wednesday night at 8:00. Du Quoin is 18-8-3 on the season.

PONY Colts Win Twice in Zone

On Sunday, Du Quoin Colt girls traveled to Carbondale to face Merrionette Park of Chicago in the PONY Zone Tournament , but the team failed to show up.

Du Quoin then went back on Tuesday and faced Carbondale.

Du Quoin won 8-0 in five innings.

Micah Ward pitched, striking out two , walking none and allowing only two hits.

For Du Quoin Micah Ward, Ashley Hess and Macie Minor had two hits.

Courtney Morse, Curry Emling, Ashley Ward, and Heather Cavins eall had one hit.

Ashley Ward, Ashley Hess, and Curry Emling hit doubles.

Du Quoin played at 8:00 on Tuesday against Fairfield.
