Drunk Driver Plows Through Monuments at IOOF Cemetery

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ A 21-year-old Du Quoin man has been arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, unsafe tires and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident after his car left North Line Street and plowed a path through monuments a the city's historic IOOF cemetery.

Assistant Chief of Police Jamie Ellermeyer identified the young driver as Walton Gibson. The incident happened at 3:49 a.m. this morning. All told, Ellermeyer said the man damaged seven or eight markers on the Line Street side. The man posted $300 bond and was released. The cemetery is owned and managed by the Gary McClure family.
