A War Remade

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ From 1754 to 1763 British forces were at war with French forces, with American Indians at both sides, over control of the North American lands. Britian won the conflict, forcing France out of North America. On July 12 and 13 though, the French had another chance.

Period infantry, cavalry and artillery units were all in action during the French and Indian War re-enactment at Fort Kaskasia State Historic Site Saturday and Sunday. The event had no pre-determined winner or loser, and none of the battles or skirmishes were scripted.

At the start of the day, each side would go out and start a base camp. Neither side knew where the others' base camp was located. Over the course of the day, orders would be handed out and a winning side would be chosen depending on superior fighting and maneuvering abilities.

The warm weather did not keep the actors from coming in full costume, and they waded through the fields with their muskets ready. Onlookers were allowed to oversee the fight from a clearing at the top of the valley while both sides tried to invade the other side.
