A Cobden man faces numerous charges after he allegedly led Carbondale Police on an inter-county car chase Wednesday morning.
Police arrested Eliseo Carmona, 26, of Cobden after first observing a vehicle weaving south with no operable headlights on Rt. 51 near Pleasant Hill Road shortly after 1 a.m. Dec. 16.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but it failed to stop and continued south on Rt. 51 toward Union County. Carbondale officers and Illinois State Police personnel initiated a “low-speed pursuit” of the vehicle, according to a news release.
The vehicle came to a stop in Union County after an officer with the Union County Sheriff’s Office was able to deploy spike strips to safely disable the vehicle.
Carmona, the driver, was arrested without further incident and charged with aggravated DUI, fleeing to elude police officers, driving with no valid insurance and other miscellaneous traffic offenses. He was taken to the Jackson County Jail.
