A senior at Carbondale Community High School and his friend, a 2015 graduate, have been identified as the two killed Saturday as a result of a traffic accident on the city’s east side.

Ryan Reed, a CCHS senior, died early Sunday morning at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis as a result of injuries sustained during an accident shortly before 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of East Main Street and Reed Station Road.

Services for Reed are set for Friday at Pettett Funeral Home.

Gavin Flynn, a recent CCHS graduate, also was fatally injured in the crash and died at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Services for Flynn will be Saturday at Meredith Funeral Home.

When officers arrived at the scene Saturday evening, they determined that a 2015 Audi traveling westbound on East Main Street struck the two boys as they entered the roadway from the north on foot, about 50 yards west of the intersection.

The driver of the vehicle, a 48-year-old male, was not injured in the accident. No citations have been issued.
