A project to build a Hilton hotel just south of PK’s on the Strip continues to move forward, and there could be further news about the development by the end of this month.
Naresh Patel, one of the six local investors spearheading the plan, says design plans for the project were submitted last week to Hilton corporate management, and a meeting with potential builders is scheduled to take place next week.
Gary Williams, assistant city manager for economic development, said Monday that the investment group spearheading the project, Sai Krishna LLC, is spending time completing all of the procedural requirements for the project to break ground. Williams said that despite some rumors to the contrary, the project is still moving ahead.
“All indications are that it’s still going on,” Williams said. “There are a lot of hurdles we have to go through before they can break ground.”
In June, the city council approved the sale of a parking lot in the 200 block of West Elm Street, just south of PK’s, to Sai Krishna LLC for $75,000.
The group of local investors, six from Carbondale and six from Harrisburg, plans to build an 85-room Hilton Home2 Suites hotel that would consist of four or five floors. At the time of the sale, development was expected to begin within six months.
Terms of the sale require substantial progress to be completed within 18 months.
