Police continue to investigate the circumstances that led to a body being found last week near a heavily traveled commercial area, although they have yet to confirm an identity.

Carbondale Police said Tuesday that they recently set up an informational checkpoint at the intersection of East Main Street and Lewis Lane in an effort to gather information regarding the body, which was found the morning of Aug. 30 in a wooded area near Midas at 900 E. Main St.

Authorities found the body after responding that morning to a fire in the same area. Police say the victim’s identity remains unknown, as well as the victim’s gender and race.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Carbondale Police at 618-457-3200 or Crime Stoppers’ anonymous tip line at 618-549-2677.
