With a new location and a new attitude, Bella Sofia Threads owners Brittany and Jacob Cook are ready to take on the Carbondale business world.

Bella Sofia Threads is a children’s store located in the Murdale Shopping Center. It’s a modern boutique providing a wide array of children’s clothes to families shopping for their children in Southern Illinois.

Brittany and her husband Jacob Cook opened Bella Sofia Threads two years ago in September 2015. The store originally was in downtown Carbondale and recently moved to Murdale. The Cooks loved being in downtown Carbondale, but moving to Murdale has allowed the store to become part of the Murdale Shopping Center’s family atmosphere, Brittany said.

“I love being in Murdale,” Brittany Cook said. “Families are shopping at the Co-Op, running into True Value, there is a neighborhood right behind the shopping center. “

The store carries newborn through size 12 for older children. There is apparel, clothing, toys, accessories and the baby section has gear and swaddles just to name a couple items.

The store carries a wooden toy line made from a local artist that uses organic paint, green toys that are all made from recycled milk jugs, a selection of children books, but also features products from national brand “Melissa & Doug” allowing for a large selection of toys of which parents can shop.

Brittany Cook’s husband served in the Army and the family moved all throughout the country. In these military towns, she would take her children to children’s boutiques to find something fun to do with her children when her husband was away from home.

“When my husband got out of the military my love for children’s boutiques didn’t stop,” Brittany Cook said.” “There wasn’t really anything like that in Southern Illinois and I thought gosh we love it so much, I talked to my husband and we decided to just open our own.”

Bella Sofia Threads is meant to be more than just a place for customers to shop.

“We want this place to be more than just a store,” Brittany Cook said. “We want it be a place people can talk, and help provide a support system. We have a children’s play area and moms come here for play dates. We truly love our customers and know them by name so it truly feels like
family.”
