An Ullin man faces multiple charges after he allegedly pointed a gun at someone in traffic and fled from officers who confronted him.

Kiondre L. Fitzgerald, 19, faces charges of aggravated assault, resisting a peace officer and two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon following the incident Monday afternoon in Carbondale. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Feb. 18.

Police say they responded around 2:21 p.m. Jan. 25 to a weapon complaint in the 1000 block of East Main Street during which a passenger in a vehicle allegedly displayed a firearm at another person.

Officers located the suspect vehicle and stopped it near North Illinois Avenue and West Jackson Street.

There, they observed the suspect, Fitzgerald, allegedly in possession of a handgun.

Fitzgerald then allegedly ignored the commands of officers, exited the vehicle and fled from the scene on foot.

He was apprehended a few blocks away.

Fitzgerald was treated for minor injuries at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale and then was taken to the Jackson County Jail.
