A Christmas evening traffic stop may not have brought much cheer to three Marion residents, but it did leave them facing a handful of drug and weapon charges.
Shortly after 9 p.m. on Christmas Day, Carbondale Police conducted a traffic stop for an alleged traffic violation in the area of South Wall Street and East Grand Avenue and quickly observed the smell of cannabis coming from the vehicle.
During a search, officers also found a loaded firearm in the backseat and determined it had been stolen during a recent burglary.
Police arrested the driver, 25-year-old Staci Ahner, for allegedly driving on a revoked license. She was released after posting the required bond and is due in Jackson County court Jan. 14.
Her passengers face more serious charges. Akeem Petty, 19, was charged with obstructing justice for allegedly providing a false name to officers and is set to be arraigned Jan. 20. Antwan Petty, also 19, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and is scheduled for a first court appearance Jan. 7.
Both Pettys were incarcerated at the Jackson County Jail.
